Kuala Lumpur : 1 March 2013, Former police officer Wan Mohd Azri Wan Deris was yesterday ordered to pay opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim RM800 000 in damages over blog posts as 'papagomo', despite continued denials that he was not the offending blogger.
The High Court here decided in favour of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who had sued 'papagomo' for linking him to a man in a sex video. Judicial commissioner Rosilah Yop declared that Wan Mohd Azri was the 'papagomo' that was named in the defamation action and ardered him to pay an additional RM50 000 in costs to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Rosilah made the decision in chambers before Anwar's lawyer N. Surendren and Lateefa Koya and lawyer Jasbeer Singh Kawna, who represented Wan Mohd Azri Wan Deris. N. Surendren told reporters the court had found that the plaintif (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) had proved his claim that Wan Mohd Azri was 'papagomo'. He said Wan Mohd Azri was ordered to pay RM800 000 in damages to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, Jasbeer Singh said his client would file an appeal against the decision. On March 21 last year, Datuk Seri Anwar filed a RM100-million defamation suit against Wan Mohd Azri, alleging that he had posted a series of four defamatory statements and images on his blog dated March 16, 17, 19 ad 20, 2013. Judicial commissioner Rosilah Yop declared that Wan Mohd Azri was the 'papagomo' that was named in the defamation action and ordered him to pay an additional RM 50 000 in costs to Datuk Seri Anwar.
Datuk Seri Anwar said, the blog had damaged his reputation and caused him and his family to suffer.
